Engineering & Recertification

At Brownfield we complete inspection, certification and repair services for OTR Wheel & Rims from 24” to 63” diameter. The process is broken into two separate parts (1) Inspection and Reporting, and (2) Repairs and Certification.


Inspection and Reporting

(This stage can be either completed in our workshop or on customer site)

  1. Visual Inspection wheels/rims, components to check for mechanical damage, excessive wear, pitting and visual cracking.
  2. Shot-Blasting to remove anything that would interfere with the interpretation of inspection results, e.g. scale, dirt, grease or paint to AS1627.4-2005
  3. Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) of all components of the rim assemblies and wheel assemblies in accordance with Australian Standard AS 4457:1997
  4. Each rim is to be hard stamped with a unique job and test number and any additional customer compliance specific identification & traceability numbers.
  5. A comprehensive (1) report and (2) repair quote (if repairs are required) is provided with a copy of the MPI report containing photographs of significant indications.

The in house MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspection) testing to AS117-1998 as referred to in AS4457.2007 is carried out by suitably trained and experienced personnel.









 


Recertification Repairs and Modifications

The repair process broken down;

  1. Quote repair, and detail scope of work,
  2. Complete repairs to your wheel/rims, in accordance with AS1554.5:2004.
  3. Conduct post-welding MPI testing, carried out on all wheel or rim repairs that require a section replacement.
  4. Post-welding Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Inspection completed as necessary to meet the needs of AS1554.5, carried out by an independent approved company.
  5. Repaired rims are then to be painted and dispatched.
  6. A certificate of conformance is required.

Final Reporting - Wheel/Rim Repair Certificate

Once the wheel/rim and associated components have been dispatched a WHEEL / RIM REPAIR CERTIFICATE is issued to show details of all work performed.

Rim Repair Standards

The Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) comply with table 4.7.1 in AS1554.5 and shall be mechanically tested and certified to AS1554.1 and AS1554.5 by an independent NATA approved testing laboratory.

The rim repair service also conforms to the following Australian standards:

  • AS4457.1-2007. Earthmoving machinery/off the road (OTR) wheels, rims and tyres – maintenance and repair.
  • AS1171. Non-destructive testing – magnetic particle testing or ferromagnetic products components and structures.
  • AS1554.1. Welding of steel structures.
  • AS1554.5. Welding of steel structures subject to high levels of fatigue loading.
  • AS1627.4. Abrasive cleaning of steel.
